Fire board fiscally prudent?

I read with dismay your front page article on Oct. 17 implying the present fire board has exercised sound fiscal management. This is absurd given the extravagant compensation EDH firefighters receive. Their annual salary, overtime and education incentives average about $135,000 to $140,000 in addition to fully paid health care and an attractive retirement plan. […]

Taxes and the voter guide

EDITOR: El Dorado County is supposed to be mostly Republican and more conservative. I was going over the Voter Guide and noticed a plethora of proposed taxes increases on the various ballot initiatives and even within our own county. I just received my property tax and saw the following supplemental taxes: Buckeye Elem Bond Election 06 EDUHS Bond- […]

A taxpayer for Sherry & Craig Petersen

EDITOR: Mr. Christian failed to mention his expertise is grounded in his career as a firefighter. If I were a firefighter, and wanted to see the great pay and benefits continue to be offered in El Dorado Hills, I would probably draft a similar letter. But I’m just a taxpayer in El Dorado County. Accusations of influence peddling and financial improprieties dogged Hammond’s tenure on the Fairfield […]

Martin’s touchdown run gives Trojans a win

Blake Martin’s 75-yard late fourth quarter touchdown run gave Oak Ridge the lead before Zack Claiborne’s strip and Jacob Proul’s fumble recovery ended Ponderosa’s last hope as the host Trojans ground out a hard-fought 20-17 Delta River League victory Friday night. Working his way back from an injury, Martin ran for 137 yards, the bulk […]
