Nugget Markets earns FORTUNE honor again

WOODLAND — For the ninth year running, local, family owned and operated Nugget Markets has made FORTUNE Magazine’s national listing of the “100 Best Companies to Work For.” Nugget Markets ranks No. 36 among the country’s top 100 companies.

“Our associates and leadership team work hard every day to provide outstanding guest service and quality products. Building creativity, humor and hard work into every day, the team has created a spirited culture where camaraderie and teamwork reign. Together with my family and leadership team, I thank every associate for making Nugget Markets and Food 4 Less the stores they are today,” said Eric Stille, CEO and president of Nugget Market Inc.

Stille’s leadership places a high value on the family-oriented work environment that supports the health and well-being of every associates’ professional and personal life. While 90 percent of associates believe there is a real “family” or “team” feeling at Nugget, 83 percent feel that they are encouraged to balance their work and personal life, and this same percentage states that their leaders recognize their needs as people, not just employees, according to the audit conducted by the Great Place to Work Institute that supports FORTUNE Magazine’s ranking of “100 Best Companies to Work For” list.

“Our associates are the difference maker, and it is they who separate us from our competition. At Nugget Markets, we take every opportunity to reward and celebrate our people. We believe that when our associates are having fun and feeling valued, there is an energy and enthusiasm that is created — and it transcends right through the guest experience,” said Chris Carpenter, COO and vice president of Nugget Markets Inc.

Nugget Markets and Food 4 Less hire associates for their passion for food and guest service, positive mindset, desire to work as a team, commitment to constant improvement and interest in working in a retail environment. It is these associate attributes that help deliver outstanding service, support, and quality products to guests and associates alike.

Nugget Market Inc. has been owned and operated by the Stille family since 1926, and has nine Northern California locations in Davis, El Dorado Hills, Elk Grove, Roseville, Sacramento, West Sacramento, Vacaville and Woodland. The company’s three Food 4 Less stores are located in Cameron Park, Vallejo and Woodland.
