Now may not be the best time to open another salon and spa, but Kathy Bennett, owner of Reflection Salon & Spa in Folsom, is not daunted. She’s been in the business locally as a stylist for 25 years and made it through two recessions.

The inspiration for her new business, which opened Aug. 3, 2010, came from a personal experience. “Someone gave me a gift of a room at a spa in Monterey. They made me felt so special there. Even the products in the bathroom were a leading brand,” she said.

Bennett dreamed of creating a beautiful environment where a hardworking man or woman could feel the luxury of personal service at an affordable price.

Reflection Salon & Spa is on the corner of Blue Ravine Road and E. Natoma Street. “People driving in and out of Folsom, and from El Dorado Hills and Granite Bay, pass by,” said Bennett. “We have a lot of easy parking. The Farmer’s Market will open again here soon and when the former Ralphs gets a new tenant, the shopping center should be busy.”

The 2,100-square-foot salon and spa was formerly Placer Sierra Bank. The branch was closed when Wells Fargo took over Placer Sierra and kept its branch on Folsom Boulevard. “The advantage to moving into space that used to be a bank is the lighting,” said Bennett. “With retail space, the lights are bright. Bank lighting is softer.”

Even so, Bennett replaced the light fixtures with chandeliers to give her new business a more elegant look. In her renovation, she used blue and teal colors. “I want people to feel like they’ve been on a little vacation,” she said.

The mirrored water feature at the entrance sets the tone for her business motto: “Leave life behind experience Reflection.”

Bennett said Reflection’s customers range from 9 months old to over 90 years. “Whatever their age, I want them to leave feeling beautiful,” she said.

It’s not a bad thing, but Bennett is obsessive about keeping the salon and spa spotless and hygienic. “Clean is huge,” she said. “Walking into a place like this that is not clean is a big turn-off.”

Bennett herself specializes in haircuts, coloring and styling. She works full time as a stylist as well as overseeing the business.

Reflection Salon & Spa offers full-service hair, nail and skin care. There are two nail technicians, two skin care technicians and two stylists. “We are still expanding,” said Bennett.

The salon and spa can accept group appointments for wedding parties, proms and special occasions.

Bennett is planning an event in late spring or early summer to benefit cancer patients and their families.

Reflection Salon & Spa is located at 24996 Blue Ravine Road. Hours are 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. For more information and special coupons visit www.reflectionsalonfolsom.com. To make an appointment call (916) 985-7510.
