Leaving the house can pull on your heart-strings when your dog wistfully looks up with those irresistible eyes that beg, “Please ….”

Now you can have “mommy & me time” with your pooch at El Dorado Hills’ newest pet club — Togs for Dogs and Cats Too!

“This is not just a place where people can buy things; it’s a place where people in the pet community can come together,” said Eddie Alexander, who opened the store with wife Dina about five months ago. “I’m hoping that people enjoy the concept so they can have a closer relationship with their pet.”

Togs for Dogs concept has three parts : the store, the café and the dog park.

Everything you need
Togs for Dogs and Cats Too! is a discount club with free membership, The shelves are line with discounted, premium dog and cat food, all made in the United States. Shoppers will also find long-lasting toys, “even with the toughest dogs,” treats, clothes and accessories and more.

If customers can’t find what they need, the Alexanders will special order it.

Have a snack with Fifi at your side
Blue Dog Café is a self-serve, honor system café on the patio where man and dog can relax. The humans can enjoy snacks, ice cream, coffee, fruit and other goodies while Fido munches on a treat.

The café offers WiFi and TV. It also plays host to pet parties. Recently pets and owners pulled out the fringe and tie-dye for a far-out 1960’s party.

What happens in the dog park …
Schedule your next playdate at Togs for Dogs’ state-of-the-art, clean and secure doggy park. Doggy Downs Parkway is a great place to play fetch, let your pooch run free and meet some two- and four-legged friends.

“The TUFFGrass is easy to keep sanitary and clean,” Eddie said. “It never gets muddy and doesn’t hold fleas.”

Members can even book the dog park and neighboring picnic area for parties.

Unruly dogs can get  some training at Doggy Downs. Mandy Kennedy of ‘Unleashed’ Dog Training, offers classes from 10 to 11 a.m. and 11:15 am. to 12:15 p.m. on Tuesdays.

Community partners
Eddie and Dina opened their first pet discount store 26 years ago in San Mateo, a location that’s still open and thriving.

Last year they moved to El Dorado Hills and sought to repeat their success. Togs for Dogs is a community partner, working with organizations like The Grace Foundation, Animal Outreach and Guide Dogs for the Blind.

Both said their favorite part of the business is meeting customers and hearing stories about their pets (past and present). The couple currently has two cats and plans to adopt a dog at one of the club’s upcoming adoption events.

Togs for Dogs and Cats too! is located at 330 Green Valley Road in El Dorado Hills. Hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday and closed Monday.
