CPCSD: Front desk position decision delayed
A decision of whether or not to employ someone permanently as a front desk clerk was delayed by the board of Cameron Park Community Services District at its meeting on Jan. 9.
Presiding over the meeting was Sean Tucker who was elected president in December. Vicky Neibauer was elected vice president.
General Manager Mary Cahill recommended hiring someone into the position in order to provide consistency in coverage and customer service, noting that the district had been relying on temporary employees for several years with most only staying for a few months before leaving for permanent jobs.
Calling the position a “vital connector to the community” that required only a minimal investment, Cahill said the total cost of the position, with benefits, was projected to be between $35,000 and $39,000 the first year.
However, Director Vicky Neibauer questioned the workload of the position and said she wanted to wait for the mid year budget figures before making a decision regarding the position. Other board members had similar reservations.
During the public discussion, resident Gerald Lillpop criticized the proposal, calling it a “zombie issue” that Cahill wouldn’t allow to die. He suggested holding off on a decision until the board understood the long-term liability of hiring another fully benefited position.
With the board uncertain about the amount of property taxes they will be receiving, they voted to put off any decision until their February meeting when they will have the mid year budget numbers and property tax receipt information before them.
In other actions, a new classroom B rate structure was also approved by the board.
A policy governing the use of a training/conference room at Fire Station 89 will be revisited at the board’s next meeting. Currently different community groups are using the room as a meeting space.
