In 1998 he began long-distance motorcycle riding with a sidecar for his crutches. He set all these distance records. Since then he’s ridden 1.3 million miles for Polio research.”
Anita Cockerell, Shingle Springs: “Ramona Foster taught me how to sew, but she was really more of a surrogate mom. I learned how to be a wife and mother from her. Their family soft of took ours in. Ramona died yesterday."

Sandra Woodring, Shingle Springs: “My grandmother emigrated from Spain in a cattle boat. She taught us all about self-sufficiency, also how to work. We lived on a family ranch in Cupertino long before Silicon Valley. We grew apricots and walnuts. It was a hard life.”
Jennifer Carpenter, Rancho Cordova: “I worked as an aide in a long-since closed preschool in El Dorado Hills called Precious Cargo. The teacher was Miss Ching. Now I’m a teacher and I try to be just like her. She had a way with kids. They lit up when she walked in the room.”
