People Talk: What’s your take on the Republican presidential candidates?

Brent Llewellyn, Pollock Pines: “I don’t like any of them. I feel like they’re pretty similar in a lot of ways. It seems like they have to be extreme to be heard. I’d like to see more different choices.”

Bud Brown, Cameron Park: “The debates are a pleasant exercise, but at this time four years ago Rudy Giuliani was in the lead ahead of Fred Thompson. It’s too early to tell anything.”

Danny Picarella, Cameron Park: “I’m an independent, and I’d like to see the country going in a better direction. I vote, but haven’t voted for president lately. None of the candidates spoke to me. I vote for the issues, and some of the other people on the ballot. I guess I vote for issues more than people.”

Robert Blum, Cameron Park: “I’m researching Herman Cain. At this point I don’t think his 9-9-9 plan would work as written, but it’s well thought out and a good starting point. People don’t like the federal sales tax he proposes, but I think it’s progressive. Rich people spend more than poor people. I think we should be doing more progressive taxation rather than less to fund our government and infrastructure.”

Robert Ward, Diamond Springs: “Cain is certainly energetic, as is Perry, but I don’t buy his 9-9-9 plan. It’s a gimmick to attract attention. Basically, I don’t trust politicians. I don’t want to vote for the lesser of two evils … you still get evil.”
