Hoffman for judge

T

here are two candidates for Superior Court Judge, Office 5. One is a court commissioner, primarily in South Lake Tahoe and apparently performing that function well. The other is attorney Joe Hoffman, 44, who in 2012 came very close to unseating a recently appointed judge.

We endorsed Joe Hoffman then and we endorse Joe Hoffman in this election. This time Mr. Hoffman is running for an open seat, as Judge Daniel Proud is retiring. Judge Proud is endorsing Hoffman.

Also endorsing Hoffman is the highly respected Judge Douglas Phimister, who is known for his heavy criminal case load.

Likewise, Joe Hoffman is known for his hard work in private practice and as a judge pro tem both in this county and in Sacramento County. Attorneys come to him to act as a private judge.

The list of attorneys endorsing Hoffman is a who’s who of the local bar.

We like seeing judges who have had experience running the business of a law firm and making payroll. Our endorsement goes to Joe Hoffman because he realizes that time is money for those who appear in court and pay attorneys to represent them, as well as for sheriff’s deputies who are called as witnesses. We believe he will schedule his calendar in an efficient manner that will not waste time and money of those who appear in court.

That explains why Sheriff John D’Agostini, as well as the El Dorado County Deputy Sheriff’s Association, have endorsed Hoffman for judge. He has also been endorsed by retired El Dorado County Sheriff Hal Barker and retired Sacramento County Sheriff John McGinniss. Also backing Joe Hoffman are a key number of deputy district attorneys.

We are proud to join the judges, prosecutors and sheriff in endorsing Joe Hoffman for Superior Court Judge, Office 5. We urge our readers to vote for Joe Hoffman June 3.
