CSD board vs. John Skeel … a public relations disaster illustrated

It doesn’t matter who is right and who is wrong. The damage is done.

By anyone’s estimate, the recent standing-room only El Dorado Hills Community Services District Board of Directors meeting/showdown with John Skeel was teetering on an angry mob scene. And it wasn’t in favor of the board.

The fact remains the board under the direction of Guy Gertsch and Noelle Mattock has created a public relations crisis with the mishandling of communications to El Dorado Hills residents.

And if you personally talk to Guy or Noelle, as I did, you quickly understand their capacity for crisis management.

As both Guy and Noelle demonstrated during the most recent public meeting, calling John Skeel a liar then having no proof to back up their claim … insert another shovel of dirt on top of their own grave here … it was a new professional low I did not expect to see.

I believe the failure of the CSD board to communicate effectively to El Dorado Hills residents is the root of the problem.

I also believe that as board members you should possess the skills to avoid this situation. After all, I always thought board members should have at minimum the same or preferably more experience than the management team they hire. What I experienced at the recent board meeting was board leadership squarely ignoring public residents of El Dorado Hills and personally locked into a personal battle with John Skeel.

Now against the tide of public support you only have yourself to blame. And El Dorado Hills residents are in line to suffer.

  1. Upon further communication with some Board Members today I’m informed they are attempting to avoid litigation. Not only is this encouraging, it’s leadership. Essentially, there is only two years left on Skeel’s contract. I say we avoid a costly lawsuit and work together for the next two years. Let Skeel show us all what he can do.

  2. I’m sure they’d like that NOW. It’s called covering your arse and keeping your board seat.
