EDH farmers market alive and well

By From page A5 | July 25, 2012

EDITOR:

This is a reply to the letter from a Jerry Ann Campbell:

Ms. Campbell, please return to the Farmers Market at Town Center. All of the hardworking farmers that you admire are there. The “Certified Farmers Market” has been placed at the other side of the Town Center Boulevard. bridge, while the “Vendors Market” constituted primarly of food, kitchen and garden oriented items remained in its same place. The “Vendors Market” was created to help defray the costs for the farmers.

Incidently, our non-profit mission statement is “to help sustain small family farms.” Farmers are the reason Town Center Farmers Market exists. Currently, there are 26 certified growers in the market, with the majority being El Dorado County growers. The “Vendors Market ” consists of 17 food vendors ranging from bakery items to tamales. The balance of the market is kitchen and garden oriented with the balance equal to less than seven percent that could be considered craft.

This market is here to serve the community and could not happen with out the generous support of Town Center merchants and management.

Jim Coalwell
Manager of the El Dorado County Certified Farmers’ Market Association
