I’m opposed to Mather air cargo expansion

By From page A5 | September 26, 2012

EDITOR:

I have been a resident of El Dorado Hills since 2005. Prior to moving here I was employed by the FAA as a supervisor for an air traffic facility in Oakland. I have been around airplanes all my life, both as a pilot and as a profession. In the 30 years of work I often lived near busy airports. I even experienced the crash of a cargo plane just blocks from my home when I was younger. That plane had just flown very low over me as I tried sleeping.

Those experiences have taught me an important lesson, you do not want to live with jet aircraft flying over you and your neighbors homes at night. Whether it’s you, your wife or your children, someone in the home will not sleep well as large jet aircraft fly overhead. They make noise and make it often. No two ways about it.

All most all air cargo fly’s at noght. Ask any Fedex pilot.

A few aircraft flying around may seem unimportant, but Sac County’s plans are clear: enlarge and expand. The master plan clearly states as much as 40 aircraft an hour would be possible. Sound crazy? Look at Memphis airport (Fedex’s HUB), you will see the future of Mather Airport if Sac County has it’s wish.

Without much warning, Sac County released the Draft-Environmental Impact Report on Expansion of Mather. Did you know the draft report had been released for public comment? Your opportunity to comment ends Oct. 7.

I ask everyone who likes sleep to call/write/e-mail the members of the El Dorado County Board of Supervisors to examine, oppose and make specific written comments on the flawed D-EIR for Mather Airport Expansion.
