Who’s planning EDH growth?

EDITOR:

We are having a huge “land use” problem in El Dorado County, and people need to be responding accordingly.

Chris Daley wrote a great synopsis of the current Measure Y issue as presented to our Board of Supervisors on Aug. 26 (mtdemocrat.com/news/pro-growth-no-growth-slow-growth-bos-listens-to-public-points/). How many people remember Measure Y? If you are a developer, you probably hate it. If you are a resident, especially one who commutes on Highway 50, you love it, and you love it because Measure Y is what will keep your commute from becoming Bay-Area-esque in the next five to 10 years.

That’s just Measure Y. What about LUPPU? Does the average person know what it is? The ongoing implementation process of LUPPU is aimed at propping up a General Plan that reflects growth in our county that cannot be accommodated within our infrastructure limitations. This is not an attack on LUPPU so much as a plea to redirect its path.

Our supervisors appear to be trying to do the right thing by listening, thus special meetings like the one coming up on Sept. 30. I am not :no growth”; I am pro-responsible growth. Taking park space and dense oak woodland for housing we don’t need, approving subdivisions without infrastructure and arenas lacking adequate site egress is not responsible. Residents need to get past the chaos to understand that while they are out just trying to live their lives, these land use issues are being “resolved” around them and not necessarily in their best interests.
