In the good ol’ summertime
Since there isn’t any big party to write about this month, I decided to interview the seniors at the El Dorado Hills Senior Center to hear if they planned on doing anything exciting this summer like going on a cruise or taking a trip or having company. They all said, “No, it’s too hot for having anything like that!” Except Ursula Smith, she had unexpected company and she wasn’t too happy about that. It seems like her cat had different plans and brought a dead mouse into the house. Needless to say, it left in a hurry! Yours truly doesn’t like to travel and usually stays home or in the area, except for the last three months. I have been going to Kaiser in Roseville three times a week to treat an injured leg, but that is healing nicely and should end this month.

Senior Center anniversary
Can you believe the Senior Center opened in June 2006? Boy, does time fly! We celebrated our sixth anniversary with a wonderful luncheon, birthday cake, lots of door prizes and live music compliments of professional musician Dave Nilmeier of Music Masters of Placer County. Also, many thanks go out to Eskaton Placerville who provided great door prizes and refreshments. We all appreciate your support.

Senior Nutrition lunches
Delicious and nutritious lunches are served weekdays at noon, at the El Dorado Hills Senior Center, 990 Lassen Lane. For seniors 60 and older the suggested donation is $3, all others $5. This is a great place to have lunch, meet new people and visit with friends.

July Senior Center activities
In July we will have the following programs at the Senior Center: Photographing Family and Friends, Friday, July 6; Painting, Choose Your Medium and Drawing, July 10-31; Portrait Painting, July 13 through Aug. 3; and Healthy Cooking Workshops (Farm To Table and Weeknight Gourmet), July 21 & 22. Our guest speaker topics for July include: Easy Self Care; Mind and Meditation; Scams on Seniors; and CPR Awareness presented by El Dorado Hills Fire Department (not a certified class with a card issued). These programs are in addition to our multitude of weekly and monthly program offerings. We have something for everyone! Call the Senior Center for dates and details and registration information at (916) 358-3575.

Movies every month
The Senior Center shows movies on the first and third Monday of every month at 1 p.m. In July our movies are: Monday, July 2, “Albert Nobb” and Monday, July 16, “My Week with Marilyn.” Join us for free movies and popcorn too.

An evening out to the Placerville Observatory
Enjoy the night sky with planets, start, constellations, nebulae and more. We will have the place all to ourselves on this special evening of astronomic fun! Participants will carpool from the Senior Center on Thursday, July 26. Reservations are a must; call the Senior Center at (916) 358-3575.

June birthdays
In June the following seniors celebrated birthdays: Herman Engelhardt, Joyce McDonald, Phyllis White, Seb Basilico and Ray Retallack. Happy Birthday to you!
