Oktoberfest is just around the corner 
Oktoberfest is coming soon, so make your reservations now! This party will be held on Friday, Oct. 12, in the El Dorado Hills Community Services District gym on Harvard Way. It is sponsored by the Senior Support Council and the Placerville Nutrition lunch program. The CSD provides the sausages for the event. Doors open at 10:30 a.m., live entertainment begins at 11 and lunch is served at noon. The lunch is delicious; suggested donation is $3 for seniors 60 and older, and all others pay $5. Our local fire department will be there to serve and clean up. We thank them, and we appreciate all they do for us. Call the Senior Center at (916) 358-3575 to make your reservations.

Senior Nutrition lunches
Delicious and nutritious lunches are served weekdays at noon, at the El Dorado Hills Senior Center, 990 Lassen Lane. For seniors 60 and older the suggested donation is $3, all others $5. This is a great place to have lunch, meet new people and visit with friends.

Coming in October
Your Senior Center sure has lots going on in October! We have a new beginner magic and sleight of hand class called Abracadabra!, a Photographing Friends and Family class, watercolor and portrait painting classes and ukulele and guitar lessons. The Senior Center is hosting many guest speakers in October including some covering these topics: Legal and Financial Issues in Caregiving for Older Adults; Medicare 2013 Updates; Grief and Loss; and Geocaching … What is THAT? Alzheimer’s Association speaker
On Friday, Oct. 26, the Alzheimer’s Association of Greater Sacramento is presenting “Compassionate Communication and Challenging Behaviors … Connecting with Those Who are Memory-Impaired.” You will learn strategies to connect with the memory-impaired and how to recognize behavioral changes and ways to respond should they occur. Seating is limited for this presentation, so call now if you are interested.

Musicians needed
The El Dorado Hills Senior Fun Time Band is in need of instrumentalists, singers and a sound mixer to join its all volunteer group. This talented group of seniors have lots of fun, and bring much joy to our Senior Center. If you are interested please contact Al Kolthoff, Senior Fun Time Band leader, at (916) 933-3848.

Movies every month
On Monday, Oct. 1 we will show “J. Edgar,” starring Leonardo DiCaprio, at 1 p.m. On Monday, Oct. 15 the movie will be “The Stray,” a heartwarming story of a dog and his family. Join us for free movies and popcorn too!

September birthdays
In September the following seniors blew out the candles: Marylou Bolling, Joanne Keller, Ursula Smith, Connie Backers, Melda Eide, Kathy Wong and Greta Fuz. Happy Birthday to all of you!
