Senior News: December 2013
Another great party
Our Christmas Party was a great success with more than 240 attending. What made it so great was the delicious banana splits donated by the El Dorado Hills Rotary Club, whose members also served them and we thank you! Also, we always appreciate the Oak Ridge High School choir and jazz band for entertaining us. The talent is so amazing. The Christmas Party, plus all of our large parties, are sponsored by the El Dorado Hills Senior Council and the Placerville Senior Nutrition Lunch Program. The sponsors always make our parties a great success with many people looking forward to our next one (Valentine’s Party is Friday, Feb. 14). We are always happy to see our local firemen who help serve our delicious lunch and stay to clean up. We thank you very much. I hope everyone is enjoying this Christmas holiday as much as I am. It’s cold and brisk, but spring is on the way!
Senior Nutrition lunches
Delicious and nutritious lunches are served weekdays at noon, at the El Dorado Hills Senior Center, 990 Lassen Lane. For seniors 60 and older the suggested donation is $3, all others $5. This is a great place to have lunch, meet new people and visit with friends. Reservations are not necessary.
New in 2014
Join us at the Senior Center for our new Ukulele Jam and Guitar Jam sessions. These casual get-togethers are led by music teacher Lew Johnson. We also have a brand new Stamp Club called Senior Stampers; they meet monthly. Our January guest speaker is Debbie Stack from El Dorado County’s Health and Human Services Department. She will be presenting “Helping You Understand the Affordable Care Act.” Get your questions answered whether you are already on Medicare or not covered by Medicare. Call the Senior Center for dates and details. Most programs require preregistration in advance.
Special January classes
Ukulele and Guitar Lessons Begin Jan. 6 and Jan. 9, respectively. Basics of Drawing runs from Jan. 21 through Feb. 25. Getting to Know YOUR Digital Camera will be held on Jan. 24 with Got Potstickers on Jan. 29.
Call the Senior Center for registration information at (916) 358-3575.
In December, the following folks blew out birthday candles: Robert Euer, Joan Eyre, Carol Waller, Emile Fougere and my own personal secretary, Janet Kenneweg, Senior Center supervisor.
