Senior News: July 2013

Summer time
I hope some of you were able to spend some time at the California State Fair in Sacramento. I grew up there and it was always a time to look forward to. We would take our lunch and spend the day.

Have any of you purchased the new pocket garden hose that is advertised on TV? It is flexible and doesn’t kink. Well, for my birthday, I bought myself one. What modern technology can do today as Huell Houser would say, “It’s amazing”!

Save the date for our Oktoberfest which is coming soon. We will be hosting our annual luncheon on Friday, Oct. 11.

Senior Nutrition lunches
Delicious and nutritious lunches are served weekdays at noon, at the El Dorado Hills Senior Center, 990 Lassen Lane. For seniors 60 and older the suggested donation is $3, all others $5. This is a great place to have lunch, meet new people and visit with friends. No reservations necessary.

Coming in August
August brings many interesting programs to the Senior Center. Join us for a monthly Senior Center orientation program, ukulele lessons or a potsticker workshop. We also offer programs year-round including fun bingo, Mexican train dominoes, cribbage, bridge, a computer user group, a discussion group, guitar jam, a French club, Brain Connections, a caregiver support group and much more! The new El Dorado Hills Community Services District Activity Guide coming out the middle of the month has more than 10 pages of great programs held at the Senior Center. Watch your mailboxes the week of Aug. 19.

August guest speaker topics include: Be Aware! Scams on Seniors on Aug. 6 and The Gifts of Aging’ on Aug. 13. Call to sign up!

On Friday, Aug. 30, our own Fun Time Band plays a concert at the Center at 1 p.m.

The Movie of the Month scheduled for Monday, Aug. 5, is “Safe Haven” based on the Nicholas Sparks book and on Aug. 19 we are showing the new release “Oz, the Great and Powerful,” the prequel to “The Wizard of Oz.” Join us for free movies and popcorn!

Call the Senior Center for details, reservations and to sign up for programs at (916) 358-3575.

Evening outing to the observatory
On Tuesday, Aug. 13, we are carpooling from the Senior Center and headed up to the Community Observatory located on the Folsom Lake College Campus in Placerville. If you are into star gazing, and big powerful telescopes, this is the event for you! Bring your friends and family, but just make sure you sign up by calling the Senior Center. Space is limited.
