Senior News: June 2013

Summer is here
I hope everyone is enjoying this beautiful summer weather. Not too hot and not too cold. Remember, you can take advantage of the air conditioning at the Senior Center by participating in the numerous programs.

Are you enjoying the results of your summer garden? If yes, how are your tomatoes coming along? Hopefully better than the 2012 crop! I am going to brag a little bit because I have already picked my first Big Girl tomato, and it was delicious! Next, I will be harvesting my garlic bulbs. Hope your garden is bountiful. Let me know when you harvest your first tomato.

Check this column for information on our next big party. Time goes by fast, and it will be here before you know it!

Senior Nutrition lunches
Delicious and nutritious lunches are served weekdays at noon, at the El Dorado Hills Senior Center, 990 Lassen Lane. For seniors 60 and older the suggested donation is $3, all others $5. This is a great place to have lunch, meet new people and visit with friends. No reservations necessary.

Happenings in July
The Senior Center is bustling in July! Here’s a preview of coming attractions: You won’t want to miss our new orientation session, the new Wii bowling lessons, the four-week oil painting class, the healthy living class (for those with chronic conditions such as diabetes, etc) and our awesome hands-on photography class where you bring your own digital camera and learn the 10 basic operations specific to your personal camera.

In addition, we are hosting the following guest speaker topics: wills and trusts with Senior Attorney Diana Steele; care planning for life changes; and history of the Lincoln Highway in El Dorado County.

On Friday, July 26, our own Fun Time Band plays a concert at the Senior Center at 1 p.m. The Movie of the Month scheduled for Monday, July 1, is “Anna Karenina” and on July 15 we are showing the new release “Quartet.” Join us for free movies and popcorn! Call the Senior Center for details, reservations and to sign up for programs at (916) 358-3575.

Let’s go to Tahoe
The Senior Center is sponsoring a Tahoe day trip on Sunday, Aug. 4. The bus departs El Dorado Hills at 9 a.m and returns at 7 p.m. The $37 fee includes a $20 slot voucher and a $7 lunch voucher. Call the Recreation Office to sign up at (916) 933-6624.
