Senior News – May 2013

Spring Fling
Spring Fling was a great party with more than 200 people attending. This party was sponsored by the El Dorado Hills Senior Council and the Senior Nutrition Lunch program from Placerville. The lunch was delicious and the band was great. We had many dancers on the dance floor; they had a great time and it was fun to watch them. We would like to thank our local fire department and staff for helping serve and cleaning up. They do a great job. The El Dorado Hills Community Services District facilities staff also work hard to make our parties a huge success. Check this column for more information on our next big parties.

First round table
Exercising, good nutrition, and avoiding stress helps to maintain a healthy body, but what about the brain? Cutting edge research has shown simple habits can improve your “brain fitness.” Join us on Friday, June 7, from 1 to 3 p.m. to learn: how to move your body, enhance learning and memory; how to feed your brain — food for thought and thinking clearly; the importance of balance and managing concerns about falls; tips for memory enhancement (they are called brain teasers for a reason!) Guest speakers include Gina Bartok, certified senior fitness specialist; Marian Fitzpatrick, registered physical therapist; and Nancy Porter of Nutrition by Nancy. Our facilitator Judy Bakke has done an excellent job planning and organizing this new event. Refreshments will be served. Seats are limited and reservations are required by calling the Senior Center at (916) 358-3575.

Senior Nutrition lunches
Delicious and nutritious lunches are served weekdays at noon, at the El Dorado Hills Senior Center, 990 Lassen Lane. For seniors 60 and older the suggested donation is $3, all others $5. This is a great place to have lunch, meet new people and visit with friends.
