Eat, drink, celebrate locally grown at the Grape Escape

SACRAMENTO — Get your taste buds ready! The 11th annual Save Mart Grape Escape is scheduled for Saturday, June 1, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the newly renovated Cesar Chavez Park in downtown Sacramento.

This annual culinary celebration is the region’s premier food and wine event that showcases varietals from 60 regional wineries and 40 local restaurants. This all-inclusive event provides a rare opportunity for attendees to sip wine from the eight wine regions in the greater Sacramento area while enjoying delicious food samples from Sacramento’s top restaurants.

As a crowd-pleasing event highlight, the Save Mart Grape Escape will also showcase a spirited “Chef’s Challenge” cook-off presented by the Institute of Technology Culinary Academy. Using a basket of mystery items to create recipes on-the-spot, a number of Sacramento’s top chefs will compete head-to-head in the 2013 “Chef’s Challenge” including Bill Ngo from Kru Contemporary  Japanese Cuisine restaurant and Brian Mizner from Hook & Ladder Manufacturing Company.

“Especially given that Sacramento has recently been proclaimed the ‘Farm-to-Fork Capital of America,’ the Save Mart Grape Escape provides a wonderful opportunity for the area’s very best chefs, restaurants, wineries and community to come together and celebrate the bounty our local area has to offer,” said Mike Testa, senior vice president of the Sacramento Convention & Visitors Bureau.

The Grape Escape event first started in 2002 with 700 attendees and 55 participating restaurants and wineries. In 2013, the Save Mart Grape Escape will showcase wines from eight counties:  Amador, Calaveras, El Dorado, Nevada, Placer, Sacramento, San Joaquin and Yolo.  In addition, more than 200 regional wines will be paired with tasty local cuisine and exciting live entertainment, making this a true destination event for Sacramento locals as well as visitors to the area.

Event tickets are available now for $40 online or for $35 (a $5 savings) at participating Save Mart Supermarkets. On the day of the event, tickets will cost $50 at the door. For advance tickets or for more information visit savemartgrapeescape.com or call (916) 808-7777.
