EDMT hosts summer intensive

El Dorado Musical Theatre announces its Summer Theater Intensive, July 23-27, a rigorous five-day experience designed to give young performers (13 and older) who love musical theater the opportunity to learn directly from experienced Broadway and industry professionals.

Each day includes instruction on acting, vocals, and jazz and tap dance. Special skills classes will cover topics such as improvisation, working with accompanists, audition tips and guest forums.

The professional teaching staff includes Harvey Evans, one of the most loved and delightful artists in show business who appeared onstage, in film and on TV regularly since the 1950s. Evans won acclaim as Young Buddy in the original “Follies.”  Numerous roles in “Sunset Boulevard,” “The Scarlet Pimpernel,” and the 2005 “Oklahoma! Revival” followed. “The stories he can (and will) tell!” said Debbie Wilson, Artistic Director of EDMT.

Teaching daily vocal classes will be Pierce Peter Brandt of the American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco. Having performed leading and featured roles in the acclaimed final company of the original Broadway production of “Les Misérables” and the national tour of “Jesus Christ Superstar,” Brandt is the recipient two Drama-Logue/Backstage West Awards.

Exploring the world of improvisation will be Jim and Tamra Meskimen. A professional actor for nearly 30 years, Jim’s viral video Shakespeare in Celebrity Voices has had more than 828,542 views. His ability to develop distinctive characters has earned him international acclaim. Tamra, one of the founders of The Acting Center in Los Angeles, is a New York trained stage actress and veteran of the New York and Los Angeles improv scene.

The Summer Theater Intensive runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., July 23-27, at Folsom Lake College. Cost is $495. For more information or to register visit edmtsummerintensive.info or call (916) 941-SING.
