El Dorado Musical Theatre hosts Masterclass Week

El Dorado Musical Theatre’s Masterclass Week, a rigorous 5-day experience designed to give young performers (ages 11 and older) who love musical theater the opportunity to learn directly from experienced Broadway and Hollywood professionals, will be held July 21-25.

Each day focuses on a specific performance skill  — Wicked Jazz, Precision Dance, Character Development, Improvisation and Song Interpretation.

On July 21 students will learn Wicked Jazz from Andrew Palermo, instructor at UC Irvine’s Drama and Dance department. Palermo’s performance career includes performing with the original Broadway companies of “Wicked” and “Annie Get Your Gun” (revival). Palermo is co-founder (with Taye Diggs) of dre.dance, a contemporary dance company.

Samantha Harvey will lead the Precision Dance day, July 22. A Radio City Rockette, who recently completed six seasons with this renown performing group, EDMT is honored to have her teach its local performers.

Day three, July 23, features Jim Meskimen, professional actor and impressionist. Meskimen has been a working actor for more than 30 years and has appeared in many major motion pictures including “Apollo 13,” “The Grinch,” etc. His viral video “Shakespeare in Celebrity Voices” has recorded more than 973,000 YouTube views.

Tamra Meskimen, a New York trained stage actress, will challenge performers to think quickly and creatively to develop their improv skills on July 24.  Meskimen is a veteran of the New York and L.A. improv scene and is one of the founders of The Acting Center in Los Angeles.

Song Interpretation, July 25, will be led by Pierce Peter Brandt, who has performed leading roles in major musical theater productions at many of the country’s finest professional regional theaters. Brandt is on the teaching staff at American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco.

Intermediate level classes will be held each day from 9 a.m to noon. Advanced classes will be held from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. each day. Masterclasses will be held at the EDMT rehearsal hall. For registration information and fees visit edmt.info/masterclass.
