Fairytale Town transforms into winter wonderland

Celebrate the holiday season at Fairytale Town with holiday lights, festive décor, Santa and his reindeer and more at Fairytale Town’s Winter Wonderland event. The fun-filled family celebration is set for eight days: Thursdays through Sundays, Dec. 12-15 and 19-22. Fairytale Town will be open special hours for the event from 1 to 7 p.m.

The storybook park will be trimmed with festive décor and, starting at dusk each day, lit up with a dazzling display of lights. Multiple arts and crafts activities will be stationed throughout the park, where children can make three-dimensional ornaments, jingle bells and reindeer hats. Vendors will also be on hand to offer their holiday wares and treats.

Two of Santa’s reindeer will visit the park on Dec. 14 and 15, and Santa Claus will be in his workshop in the Children’s Theater to visit and take photos with children on Dec. 14, 15, 21 and 22, from 3 to 7 p.m. Photos with Santa can be purchased for a small fee and taken home as a memento of the day.

A variety of entertainers will appear throughout the holiday celebration. Victorian carolers from Sacramento Theatre Company’s School of the Arts will perform on Dec. 13 and 20 from 5 to 7 p.m. Author Erin Dealey will present a reading of her new book, “Deck the Walls” on Dec. 19 at 2 and 4 p.m. Dealey will sign books following each reading. Plus, Ebenezer Scrooge and additional characters from Charles Dickens’ classic holiday tale “A Christmas Carol” will wander throughout the park, and more.

Admission to Fairytale Town and Winter Wonderland is $5 per person. Fairytale Town members and children one and under are free. Winter Wonderland is offered weather permitting. Winter Wonderland is sponsored in part by Loveall Foundation for Children, PG&E, New York Life, Arista Preschool and Securitas.
