Folsom Jazz Fest star-studded
Harry Connick Jr. trumpeter Kevin Bryan will join the Folsom High School Jazz Band on stage during opening night concert for the 22nd annual Folsom Jazz Festival Friday, Jan. 28 at Rolling Hills Christian Church in El Dorado Hills.
Also taking the stage will be Vertical Voices, a jazz vocal quartet featuring local musicians Kerry Marsh and Julia Dollison. Dollison and Marsh’s album “Vertical Voices: The Music of Maria Schneider” recently made the short list for Grammy nominations in 2010.
In addition to playing with Connick, Jr., Bryan lends his musical talents to the Duke Ellington Orchestra, The Bobby Sanabria Big Band and The Mambo Legends Orchestra. He has established himself as one of the most versatile musicians on the New York scene today. Kevin has been a welcome presence with an astonishing array of artists including Tito Puente, Celia Cruz, Dianne Schurr, James Moody, Paquito D’Rivera, Brian McKnight, Michael Bolton, Patti Austin, Dave Douglas and Clark Terry.
The concert kicks off another exciting year for the Folsom Jazz Festival, which will run all day Saturday. More than 130 middle school and high school jazz bands, vocal jazz groups and jazz combos from all over California and Nevada will compete throughout the day at this family-friendly event. The Festival is one of the largest jazz competitions in our State. There will be six venues at two locations, Folsom High School and Rolling Hills Christian Church. Tickets for the Saturday Jazz Festival are $12 and can be purchased the day of the event at the festival at both venue locations.
All proceeds benefit the Folsom High School music programs. For more information about these events and the music program visit FolsomMusic.org.
