BIG, BOLD AND BEAUTIFUL — America’s favorite movie-turned-musical-turned-movie opens in Sacramento this week. “Hairspray” will light up the stage at the 24th Street Theatre this Friday night, continuing through Jan. 30. The musical theater adaptation of John Waters’ 1988 film tells the story of larger-than-life Tracy Turnblad who takes 1960s Baltimore by storm as a dancer who sets out to racially integrate the teen-favorite Corny Collins show. The musical debuted on Broadway in 2002 and was revived as a movie in 2007, starring Nickki Blonsky as Tracy and John Travolta as her mother, Edna Turnblad.
