‘The King Stag’ auditions scheduled

The Falcon’s Eye Theatre at Folsom Lake College calls for actors from the community to audition Monday, Feb. 13, for its spring production of “The King Stag.”

Carlo Gozzi’s hilarious comic fable comes to life in the forest with King Deramo and the faithful Angela who loves him. In this magical fantasy, men become creatures and creatures become men. Deceit, lies, magic, murder, betrayal and loyalty all share the stage in this charming pursuit of true love. Gozzi’s 18th-century fairy tale, performed by The Falcon’s Eye in the style of commedia dell’arte under the direction of discipline expert Jamie Van Camp, still captivates audiences with its humor, colorful, larger-than-life characters and intricately entangled plot.

Auditions will be held at 6:30 p.m. on a first-come, first-served basis in the Drama Lab (PAC-1170) of the Three Stages Performing Arts Center on the Folsom campus of Folsom Lake College, 10 College Parkway (off E. Bidwell Street), Folsom For a map visit flc.losrios.edu and click on “Maps” (then select “Main Folsom campus”). On College Parkway, turn left at the stop sign. One dollar parking permits are available at kiosks located throughout the parking lots.

Auditioners must prepare a monologue that is no more than 90 seconds long from any stage play. This monologue should best portray the actor’s strengths and can be of any genre, but must be from a play written for the stage. This monologue must be memorized. Auditioners who are called back will also be asked to audition by way of cold readings from the text. Auditions are expected to run until approximately 10 p.m. It is requested that auditioners bring an 8×10 photo-headshot and resume of acting experience, if available, but this is not required.

Callbacks will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Feb. 14 & 15 by invitation only.

Rehearsal dates are scheduled Feb. 20 through April 26, evenings and some weekend afternoons. Significant conflicts with these dates are not allowed.

Performance dates are April 27 through May 13, Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. Additional performances are Saturday, May 5, at 2 p.m. and Thursday, May 10, at 7 p.m. Performances will be held at Three Stages at Folsom Lake College in Stage 2, the City Studio Theater.
