2-year-old child struck, killed

A 2-year-old child was struck and killed by a vehicle at the family home on Stanford Lane near Starbuck in El Dorado Hills just before 9:15 a.m. Sunday, according to El Dorado County sheriff’s Lt. Bryan Golmitz.

The tragedy occurred in the 2500 block of Stanford, but the family name was not being released at press time Sunday. It was not clear whether the victim was a boy or a girl, Golmitz told Mother Lode News.

Apparently the father of the child was moving a vehicle in the driveway of the family residence when he accidentally ran over the child, Golmitz added. He said it was not clear whether the father was backing up the vehicle or driving forward in a pouring rain that soaked the area.

Golmitz said the California Highway Patrol is investigating the incident. No further details were immediately available.
