6th Annual Scott Russell Memorial Golf Tournament

The Golf Tournament Association of America announces the sixth annual Scott Russell Memorial Golf Tournament, benefiting the Scott Russell Memorial Fund, on Friday, Sept. 20.

Shotgun start at 1 p.m. at the Empire Ranch Golf Club, Folsom. This year’s event host, Honorary Golf Chairman, is former San Francisco Giants pitcher Jim Barr. The event will include the exciting $100,000 Shootout and the $2500 putting challenge, plus many more exciting games and contest.

On July 31, 2007, Officer Scott Russell, a 22-year veteran of the California Highway Patrol, was killed in the line of duty. He was struck by an automobile driven by a convicted criminal as he was laying a spike strip on Highway 50 near Shingle Springs. The suspect was convicted and sentenced on first degree murder in September 2010 and received the maximum sentenced allowed for his crime.

The Scott Russell Memorial Fund provides college scholarships and supports youth programs in Folsom. Over the past five years, nearly a dozen college scholarships have been awarded. The Scott Russell Memorial Foundation is requesting a silent auction or raffle prize donation.

The GTAA is the official association for the golf tournament and golf outing industry. It is a free membership for any group that produces a golf outing. Benefits include monthly newsletter, tournament tips, consulting, planning guide, website, product discounts and more.
