A salon with style

Chances are you or your neighbor get coiffed at the newly named Salone di Carlo, formerly the Hair & Spa Boutique on the corner of St. Andrews Drive and El Dorado Hills Boulevard.

New owner Carlo Gallad has cut hair in El Dorado Hills since moving here from the Bay Area in 2001. He recently named his wife of 19 years Teresa as salon manager. Son Cameron, a senior at Oak Ridge, and daughter Lily, a sixth grader at Marble Valley, also help out when they can.

“I have a long-standing clientele,” said Gallad, 45.

Freedom is his favorite aspect of owning the salon. “Among other things, I can carry what I want product-wise and decide on the décor,” he said. “It’s like running your own house.”

One big change (even before the official signage goes up outside) is the look and feel of the salon’s interior. As she sat in his salon chair, Gallad envisioned a boutique salon with client Kelly Applegate of Artistic Collections for years. Today her exclusive artwork, furniture, home décor items and gifts are available for purchase, which has transformed the salon into a unique shopping experience.

“Kelly can own a boutique but doesn’t have to be present,” said Gallad. “It’s a shabby chic vibe. Right now we have a lot of Christmas items, but it will change with the seasons.”

“Carlo and I connect because we’re both outside the box,” said Applegate. “He’s great to work with.”

Gallad has expanded the staff to include even more beauty services, including three estheticians offering spray tans, waxing, facials and lash extensions. There is also a manicurist and the addition of two new hairdressers, bringing the choice of hairdressers to 13 in all.

“Everyone who works here are El Dorado Hills residents with established careers,” said Gallad.

The salon carries Lanza, Kenra, Thermafuse and Moroccan Oil products. Gallad said they have a sale on different products each month. They also sell blow dryers, brushes and flat irons.

Gallad looks forward to the next chapter of his life as the salon’s owner and is proud to call El Dorado Hills home. “We moved here from the Bay Area like a lot of people. We loved the landscape, weather, schools and small town feel,” he said. “El Dorado Hills is a great, growing community.”

Salone di Carlo is located at 1011 St. Andrews Drive Suite G. To make an appointment call (916) 939-1778. The salon will host a holiday open house on Sunday, Dec. 8, from 1 to 5 p.m. Refreshments will be served.
