AMC films new reality series in EDH

A production crew from cable channel AMC filmed a segment for an upcoming reality show at Barber Jon’s World Famous Barber Shop last week. According to the AMC website, the “Game of Arms” series to debut in February travels around the country to “look inside the raw and highly competitive world of American arm wrestling.”

After several young people died in El Dorado Hills, Jon Rivera (aka Barber Jon) hosted an arm wrestling tournament in August 2012 at the El Dorado Hills Saloon. As a charity event to bring attention to suicide prevention, Rivera let his friend Ryan McPherson, a cinematographer for the AMC show “Deadliest Catch,” know about it, and that’s how the crew made their way to El Dorado Hills.

The winner of the saloon arm wrestling tournament, Denny “Butch” Santos, was invited to compete against world champion wrestlers traveling with the show, but the result is top secret until the show airs.

“The draw of arm wrestling is that it shows guys can get together without smashing each other in the face for some friendly competition,” said Rivera.

As AMC producers packed up their equipment to move on to another American city they commented to Village Life, “These guys proved El Dorado Hills is arm wrestling territory.”
