Cyclist hit by car

A man sustained serious injuries after being hit by a car while on his bicycle on June 29 in El Dorado Hills.

David Castillo, 45, of Folsom, was riding his bicycle westbound on Alexandria Drive at 8:10 a.m., said CHP Officer Quinn Cuthbertson.

Meanwhile, Yiwei Chen, 51, of Folsom, was driving his blue 2005 Dodge Neon northbound on Sophia Parkway, which meets Alexandria at a T intersection.

“(Chen) had the right of way,” Cuthbertson said. Castillo had a stop sign. For “an unknown reason,” Castillo did not stop, and “pulled directly into the path” of Chen, who hit him broadside, Cuthbertson said.

Castillo sustained major injuries. “I hear he is not doing very well,” Cuthbertson said. “Serious injuries.”

El Dorado Hills Fire’s Mike Lillienthal said that Castillo was taken by Cal Star 3 to UC Davis Medical Center in critical condition.
