On his 11th birthday Nick Stolecki took home the trophy at the local Pinewood Derby Finals.

Nick’s pinewood derby car posted a lightning fast new track record of 3.04 seconds and raced against the fastest cars from the local Cub Scout packs. This annual event was held at Silva Valley Elementary school on Saturday, Jan. 29.

The commemorative trophy Nick took home is named for Sam Harry, who was especially fond of Cub Scouts and a friend to all who met him. Sam found that scouting encourages an environment where everyone is accepted as they are — without prejudice. The only trophy Sam ever won in his life was in the Pinewood Derby.

Nick, a Webelos II from Pack 645 at Lake Forest, declined to give away his trademark secrets except to say, “They are all Scout legal”!
