Boy drowns in Jenkinson Lake

A 6-year-old boy drowned July 21 in Jenkinson Lake in Sly Park.

At about 4 p.m., El Dorado County Sheriff’s deputies, sheriff’s marine units, U.S. Forest rangers, a USFS canine unit, local fire departments and a CHP helicopter responded to a report of a missing child in the Bumpy Meadows picnic area, a press release stated. El Dorado Irrigation District personnel and lake visitors had already begun searching the area.

The child, who was visiting the lake with his father and sister, was last seen playing in the water with his sister.

The body of 6-year-old Trip Demetri of Latrobe was found underwater about 10 feet from the shore around 5:20 p.m. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
