Buckeye trustee needed

Governing Board member Karen Randall has resigned her seat from the Buckeye Union School District. At its regular meeting on Aug. 21, the Buckeye Union School District Governing Board decided to fill this vacancy by making a provisional appointment.

The board also approved the vacancy timeline and process, which included establishing a Paper Screening Committee to screen applicants for eligibility and recommend candidates for interview. Per Education Code, the Trustees have 60 days – until Sept. 29 – to make the provisional appointment. The appointee will hold office until the next Governing Board Member election, which occurs at the Statewide General Election in November 2014.

Applications are now being accepted from any qualified person interested in filling this vacancy. Applications are available from the Buckeye Union School District office, 1665 Blackstone Parkway, El Dorado Hills. Completed applications must be returned to the Buckeye Union School District Office at the address listed above no later than 4 p.m., Monday, Sept. 16. No late applications will be accepted. Office hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Under Education Code 35107: Any person is eligible to be a Board of Education member, without further qualifications, if he/she is 18 years of age or older, a citizen of the state, a resident of the school district, a registered voter and not legally disqualified from holding civil office.

Applicants selected for interview will be notified via telephone, and their names announced at the Sept. 18 regular board meeting.

The board will interview the selected candidates, appoint the provisional board member and administer the Oath of Office at a special board meeting at 7 p.m. on Sept. 25.
