Three people have already formed committees, taking the first steps to run for ousted District 2 Supervisor Ray Nutting’s seat.
On June 17 the El Dorado County Board of Supervisors announced that a special election would be held Sept. 9 to fill the position.
It was declared vacant after Nutting was found guilty of six misdemeanors following a trial that included both felony and misdemeanor charges. He was acquitted on three of four felony charges. The fourth resulted in a mistrial when the jury deadlocked 7-5 for conviction.
As of Friday, Claire McNeal, David Pratt and Shiva Frentzen had filed information with the El Dorado County Elections Department .
McNeal is a past vice chair of the El Dorado County Republican Central Committee, served as an ex officio for Congressman Tom McClintock and is past vice president of the El Dorado County Republican Women.
Pratt is the owner of the winery dkcellars and is a current member of the El Dorado County Planning Commission. He was Nutting’s appointee to the commission.
Frentzen is president of CAL Internet Services & Eldoradobusiness.com, and is past president of the El Dorado County and Shingle Springs/Cameron Park chambers of commerce.
The nomination period for the special election begins June 30 and concludes July 18.
El Dorado County’s District 2 encompasses south county, much of Cameron Park and portions of Shingle Springs and El Dorado Hills (see map).
