Community Foundation hands out grants

Through the generosity of donors, the El Dorado Community Foundation was able to give grants to several worthwhile organizations.

Receiving funds were: Boys & Girls Club Western Slope Sponsor a Child, Infant Parent Center Mariposa Infant Program, EDC Community Health Center Patient Assistance Program, Center for Violence-Free Relationships Intern Program for Client Services, Partners In Care Healthcare Bridge Program, SLT Family Resource Center Family Advocacy, City of Placerville Aquatic Center, EDC Academic Decathlon 2014 Competition and Sierra Community Access TV Video/Media Equipment.

The El Dorado Community Foundation administers more than 200 individual funds. One of the very first funds, established in 1991, is Endow El Dorado. This particular endowment allows the foundation to open granting up to any/all nonprofit organizations in the entire county for any program or service for which they may need assistance.

Since the inception of the foundation in 1991, this one fund alone has been used to grant $1,158,574.00 back into the vitality of local nonprofits that benefit everyone.

Knowledgeable, effective granting is the hallmark of the foundation and is carried out through the efforts of a dedicated group of community-minded leaders: the Grants Committee and the Board of Directors of the El Dorado Community Foundation. Those decisions are based on several criteria: organization experience and mission; methods/activities/timeline; impending need for the program/project; sustainability of the organization; number of individuals served; and intended outcomes.

Due diligence in accountability to the donors of this fund does not stop with the granting of funds; it is followed up with a report procedure from the recipients which is also reviewed by the Grants Committee.

The El Dorado Community Foundation is a 501 (c) 3 established for the purpose of strengthening our community both now and for future generations. Individuals or organizations interested in learning more about the foundation are invited to contact Bill Roby, executive director, El Dorado Community Foundation, P.O.
