Community Needs Forum set
The Women’s Fund El Dorado is hosting its annual Community Needs Forum 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 24, at the Cold Springs Country Club, 6500 Clubhouse Dr. north of Placerville.
The topics to be covered in this year’s forum were suggested by Women’s Fund members at last year’s forum. They include youth development, health and mental health issues and senior support services.
This year’s presenters will be:
Jeremy Meyers is the deputy superintendent of educational services and instructional technology out of the El Dorado County Office of Education. He will bring forward a number of issues that are relative to the needs and interests of youth in our county. Issues such as teen suicide, bullying and transitions for foster youth will be explored.
Patricia Charles-Heathers is the Health and Human Services Agency program manager from El Dorado County Mental Health and an adjunct professor in the Department of Counseling at California State University, Sacramento. She will address the challenges families face as they try to help their loved ones, who suffer from mental illness, stay safe and lead productive lives. She will also discuss what community resources are available to these families.
Karen Shelnutt is the nurse case manager for Family Connections and faith community nurse for Federated Church. She will focus on the changing needs of older adults in our culture, community and families. She will examine the impact this has specifically on our community and will investigate some successful models being used to address the growing needs and challenges of this expanding demographic.
The event is open to all members of the community. Bring a friend to this informative night. Register early to ensure your place. A light dinner will be served. For more information or reservations call the El Dorado Community Foundation at (530) 622-5621.
