Construction starts on Sienna Ridge Road

Many drivers pass right by Sienna Ridge Road’s inconspicuous northern entrance off Bass Lake Road, but soon that entrance will be moved to extend a new, realigned section of the roadway eastward from Serrano Parkway. Serrano Associates, LLC began the planned realignment of what was formerly known as Old Bass Lake Road and will abandon one section, but add 1,300 linear feet to the new roadway to connect with Bass Lake Road and Serrano Parkway at a 4-way signalized intersection.

“As part of the land use approvals for Serrano’s property on both sides of the alignment, which we call Villages J5 and J6, the county required Serrano Associates to construct the realignment of Sienna Ridge Road,” said Andrea Howard, principal planner for Parker Development. “The realignment and related abandonment of the existing segment is needed to coordinate the circulation system between the El Dorado Hills Specific Plan and the Bass Lake Hills Specific Plan.”

As part of the EDHSP approved by the County Board of Supervisors in 1988, the realignment of Sienna Ridge Road has been on a list of improvements Serrano is obligated to construct, explained Howard. She said the time was right now because “it’s a good time to take advantage of the competitive construction bidding and pricing.”

Realigning the road also opens up the potential for new projects, explained Kirk Bone of Parker Development. Currently the northern section of Sienna Ridge Road crosses Village J6; by abandoning that section homes may eventually be built.

The county has already approved plans for residential lots at J5 and J6 and construction may start as early as 2014, though Bone said no builders have been chosen. The future development will have upwards of 100 homes and a portion of those may back up to Bridlewood Canyon.

A shopping center on the southeast corner of the new intersection, or Village J5, is also planned in the future, though that may change with market conditions, said Howard. Bone said if a shopping center is built first at Bass Lake Road and Highway 50 to serve Marble Valley the shopping center planned for J5 will most likely be abandoned.

Construction will continue throughout the summer and fall. The road should be open for use in November or December depending on weather conditions.
