I admire the intiative and effort to organize a parade with other activites, for our community. I hope everyone can and will attend! However, some important facts and details regarding the turnout for Sgt. Mote are severly lacking. The paragraph in the article "The recent Sky Mote procession demonstrated that the community will come together to honor a fallen soldier who attended its schools. Whether it will do so minus the tragedy is yet to be seen." This leaves just a bit of a bad taste in my mouth for several reasons. Sky Mote fought for our counrty and defended our freedoms. He lost his life as a result. Most of us adore our military and are bereaved when we lose one of our brave men or women. Our military families need to see that they are supported and loved. This is the reason most came out. It's also important to note that many, many groups and individuals sent out emails to their lists regarding the route and each change in the route and kept their circle of influence informed. In addition to the many obvious concerned groups in attendance, I must point out that the GOP in our county, and several tea party groups, among other involved and caring groups, worked hard sending out numerous notifications. As a result of all of these groups stepping up and coming out, in addition to our wonderful community, we had residents from many other neighboring communities in attendance - many who drove quite some distance to show their honor and respect for Sky, standing side by side, to support Sgt. Mote and his family. I feel these details were important to share. We all had a common bond and a common purpose to come out that day.

And who has a parade in October, anyway? What are we celebrating? 90% of EDH families will have soccer, football, or some other activity that day, anyway.

Why must everything be held in Town Center? Do we not have public streets to parade down? Do we not have merchants in other locations that might enjoy having a crowd drawn to or close by their location? I know it takes a little more work and cooperation with the county to get permits but really......Town Center isn't really our town center it is just Mr. Mansour's shopping center. I think the Chamber of Commerce should start being pro-active with getting events like this spread about town. :)
