Man accused of stealing from veterans groups

El Dorado resident Robert Laudermilk was arrested Jan. 14 for allegedly embezzling thousands of dollars from two different veterans organizations.

Laudermilk, 73, was found by El Dorado County sheriff’s deputies at his residence after the Disabled Veteran Organization in Cameron Park accused him of using the group’s bank account as his personal piggy bank.

Laudermilk had been the group’s treasurer.

A subsequent investigation also revealed that Laudermilk is suspected of stealing funds from the Veterans In-House Committee.

All told, Laudermilk is accused of embezzling more than $7,000 from the two groups.

He was booked into county jail, where he remains on $10,000 bail. He is set to appear in court Feb. 23.
