Elder Options celebrates 25 years

Elder Options Inc., with corporate offices in Placerville, is gearing up for a May 1 event celebrating 25 years in business.

The company was created in May 1988 by Carol S. Heape, MSW, CMC in response to the growing population of older adults in El Dorado County. Begun as a home-based, one-person business by Heape, Elder Options has grown into a large, well-recognized company with a satellite office and employees serving South Lake Tahoe and the Tahoe basin along with clients in Sacramento and surrounding areas.

Growth in the aging population and recognition of Elder Options as a community resource helped it to be named as one of the 100 Fastest Growing Companies in the Sacramento Region for five years in a row. Moving the company from a home-based office into Placerville in 1995 and then to a large Victorian office in the heart of historical downtown Placerville several years later where it remains today.

The company currently has more than 70 employees and serves more than 200 clients a year. Services have expanded with community needs with services to clients and families privately as well as contracts with El Dorado County, Alta California Regional Center, State of California’s Department of Health Care Services (Medi-Cal waiver projects), the national M.S. Society and others. Geriatric care managers serve clients throughout the Sacramento Region and home care has grown to one of the most important segments in the company. A new handyman feature assists clients even further with fix-it issues that clients can no longer handle on their own.

Elder Options’ geriatric care managers are credentialed specialists and members of the National Association of Professional Geriatric Care Managers (caremanager.org).   Heape, CEO continues to direct activities of the company and states, “Elder Options continues to partner with CSUS and Los Rios Community College District to accept interns working on special projects to completing a field placement requirement. Elder Options is a member of Chambers of Commerce in 3 communities, employees volunteer for communities activities and assist older adults and their families by being an essential resource for support groups, information and services within the Sacramento Region.   We look forward to being part of the community for years to come.”

An open house celebration will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, May 1, at the Placerville location, 82 Main St. The public is welcome.
