FOLSOM — Bucking bulls kicking their heels in the air throwing both dirt and cowboys is just part of the non-stop action at Folsom Pro Rodeo set for July 4, 5 and 6. Also packed into each evening is a high-flying motocross show, explosive fireworks, rodeo clown antics and live music.
Fans will struggle to stay dry-eyed as a huge American flag drops into the arena by parachute with patriotic music each evening. Just as the last cowboy gallops out of the arena, colorful fireworks will light up the sky. Justin Ayers, motocross expert, will test the limit of the arena by flying as high as possible with flips and turns.
Traditional rodeo events which will churn up the arena include bull riding, bronc riding, steer wrestling, barrel racing and more. Five and six-year-old cowboys and cowgirls will do their best to cling on wooly sheep in the mutton busting competition.
The gates open at 6 p.m. Rodeo action beginning nightly at 7 p.m. with timed events such as steer wrestling, followed at 8:15 p.m. with riding events including popular bull and bronc riding.
Just as the fireworks fade into memory each night, Mike’s Golden Spike Saloon will heat up with dancing music by Michael Beck on July 4, The Chris Gardner Band on July 5 and Dave Russell on July 6. Admittance to the saloon is free for rodeo fans.
This year fans will have the opportunity of sitting ringside to the bucking chutes in the new Corral Club seating area. Seats are $35 and include no-host beverage service. Reserved rodeo tickets are $24.50 (available online only). General admission is $19.50 for adults or $15 for children (12 and under) and seniors (over 62). Family value “buckaroo” packages are available online — folsomrodeo.com — which includes 4 adult general admission tickets, four sodas, four hotdogs for $65 ($96 value). Tickets are on sale at the Folsom Chamber of Commerce office, 200 Wool St. For information call (916) 985-2698 or visit the rodeo website.
A parachutist featuring an American flag motif and trailing colored smoke will land in historic Folsom to kick off the annual cattle drive in honor of the Folsom Pro Rodeo on Wednesday, July 3, 6 p.m.
The cattle drive features long-horn cattle, cowboys, the historic Wells Fargo Stagecoach, rodeo clowns and music. The free event will be contained to the historic district so the raised sidewalks of Sutter Street will provide the only viewing. The parachutist will land in the intersection of Sutter and Wool streets.
