Food Bank of El Dorado County announces Holiday Outreach 2011

DIAMOND SPRINGS — Food Bank of El Dorado County has announced details for its 2011 Holiday Outreach event. This annual outreach provides the fresh resources for a complete holiday meal to over one thousand families from right here in El Dorado County who may otherwise go without during the holiday season.

The 2011 Holiday Outreach presented by the Food Bank of El Dorado County will take place in the Mark Forni Building of the El Dorado County Fairgrounds on Saturday, Dec. 17, beginning at 10 a.m. The event is open to those who are from low income households that are struggling to make ends meet.

No pre-registration will be required for the 2011 Holiday Outreach. Low-income individuals simply need to match the first letter of their last name to the distribution schedule provided below and plan to arrive at the El Dorado County Fairgrounds at that designated time to receive their distribution of holiday food. Only one distribution will be permitted per household.

“The Food Bank teamed with the community is dedicated to making a better holiday season for our neighbors who struggle to make ends meet. Due to the economy we expect to see many more people asking for assistance this season,” said Mike Sproull, director of the Food Bank of El Dorado County. “We ask you as a family, business, church or service club, please join us by making a contribution to this important outreach. Together we will make a difference this holiday season.”

The El Dorado County Sheriff’s Department Star Volunteer Program has teamed with the Food Bank of El Dorado County to provide transportation for delivery to those that are homebound and unable to attend the event. Homebound residents must meet the criteria for home delivery. Homebound delivery for the Holiday Outreach 2011 will take place on Monday, Dec. 19.

The Food Bank is seeking volunteers to assist with the Holiday Outreach set up and distribution. For further information give the Food Bank a call at (530) 621-9950 or send an e-mail at info@foodbankedc.org. Additional information about the Food Bank at foodbankedc.org.
