Freeway Service Patrol now available in El Dorado County

The Freeway Service Patrol is a program managed by the California Highway Patrol providing emergency roadside assistance on freeways.

The FSP program is funded through Department of Motor Vehicle Registration fees and is designed to increase roadway safety, reduce motorist delay, congestion and air pollution, as well as improve the overall efficiency of freeway operations.

On Dec. 2, 2010, the El Dorado County Transportation Commission contracted with Extreme Towing to provide this service which began on Dec. 13, 2010. The service  area is Highway 50 from the El Dorado County line to the Greenstone Road interchange from 6  to 8 a.m. and 4 to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. In 36 days, Extreme Towing assisted 113 motorists on this stretch of the freeway.

EDCTC staff has received 11 online surveys and numerous calls and reports from motorists who have utilized the FSP program, all of which rated the service as “excellent.”
