Girl Scouts hosting donation drive, celebrating World Thinking Day

This Friday, March 11, Girl Scouts in and around El Dorado Hills will celebrate World Thinking Day.

The event will be held at the Lake Forest Elementary School gym, 2240 Sailsbury Drive in El Dorado Hills, from 5:30 to 8 p.m. There will be nearly 250 attendees, including more than 170 Girl Scouts celebrating and learning about Girl Scouts and Girl Guides from other countries, the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts, and supporting one of our local charities.

This year the girls are collecting travel size toiletries for Hands4Hope. The toiletries collected will be sorted by youth volunteers for Hands4Hope and then distributed to local agencies the organization partners with. The goods will also be distributed directly to the homeless during their monthly homeless outreach events in Placerville and Sacramento.

World Thinking Day is the El Dorado Hills Girl Scouts’ largest attended annual event. This year marks record attendance, a nice contribution to Girl Scouts USA Centennial Celebrations through the country, which are held now through 2012. The 100th Anniversary of GSUSA is March 12, 2012. Junior Girl Scout Troop 2633 is hosting the El Dorado Hills World Thinking Day event, and will be earning their Bronze Award as a result. The Bronze Award is the highest earned award for a Junior Girl Scout. They are 5th grade students and have been working very hard since last fall when they began planning the event.

There are more than 40 businesses supporting the event with various in-kind donations, which will be awarded to the Girl Scouts for their achievements and participation.
