High school district welcomes new Business Services associate superintendent
The El Dorado Union High School District has announced the appointment of Baldev Johal for the position of associate superintendent for Business Services.
Johal comes to El Dorado Union High School District from Yuba City Unified School District where he served for 12 years as deputy superintendent for Business. He was responsible for a $95 million operating budget and planning for more than 1,400 employees, 16 schools (kindergarten through grade 12), with a student enrollment of almost 13,000.
Johal said his proudest accomplishments at Yuba City Unified were the installation of heating and air conditioning units in every classroom to offset the 90-degree learning environments and the very much needed infrastructure improvements.
In addition to his experience in the areas of accounting, maintenance, transportation, cafeteria, facilities, employee benefits programs and chief labor negotiator for the district, Johal also brings to EDUHSD experience working with the passing of school bonds, working with the City Council and Board of Supervisors on impact fees and new school construction, and working with state agencies on grant compliance and construction approvals.
Prior to Yuba City, Johal served as a consultant for the Kishan Group and Sutter Hotel Group, both owners of hotels and hospitality-related businesses. In this capacity, he provided both marketing and operations analyses as well as long-term strategic planning and financing.
Prior to his consulting experience, Johal served as finance officer for Yuba City with operational responsibility for all aspects of accounting, purchasing, budgeting; acquisition and implementation of the city’s computer system and computer training. He began his career as an accounting supervisor for McClatchy Newspapers Cable Division with operational responsibility for providing complete financial services to four cable companies.
Johal holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from California State University, Sacramento, a master’s degree in Public Administration from the University of Southern California, is a Certified Public Accountant, and has a number of community and professional affiliations.
Johal currently resides in Yuba City with his family and enjoys playing soccer and working out. “I am excited and looking forward to joining a great team at EDUHSD,” he said. “My goal is to do everything I can to ensure that we are educating today’s students to succeed in tomorrow’s world.”
Superintendent Christopher Hoffman said, “I look forward to Baldev joining our district and expect his transition to be seamless. He has all of the qualifications and credentials and comes highly recommended, so I anticipate his expertise in these uncertain economic times will prove invaluable to us.”
Johal replaces retiring Associate Superintendent Stephen Luhrs and will join the El Dorado Union High School District on April 18.
