High school registration coming up
The El Dorado Union High School District has released the following student registration information for the 2013–14 school year. School will start on Thursday, Aug. 8. Consult your respective school’s website for the starting times of your school.
Oak Ridge High School

The Counseling Office will be closed for summer break through July 16, reopening July 17 from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Counselors will be available after Aug. 6 (by phone or e-mail).
New student registration will take place in the Career Center, as follows:
Grades 9 and 10: Aug. 2, 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. or Aug. 5, 8:30 to 11:30 a.m.
Grades 11 and 12: Aug. 2, 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. or Aug. 5, 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.
Students are required to have their transcript, immunization information and proof of residence (voter registration, driver’s license address change, PG&E bill, etc.) available at time of registration. No individual appointments will be possible at this time.
Freshmen and new students will receive their class schedule at the Freshman and New Student Orientation on Monday, Aug. 5 (see schedule below). To receive your class schedule you must bring the following completed information: Emergency Card; signed Acknowledgment of Notification of Parent Information, Anti-Discrimination/Hazing/Harassment Policy and Technology User Agreement Form. Orientation will be held in the ORHS theater.

E – K
Turn in completed forms between 1 and 1:30 p.m.; orientation from 1:30 to 2:45 p.m.
L – R
Turn in completed forms between 2:30 and 3 p.m.; orientation from 3 to 4:15 p.m.
S – Z
Turn in completed forms between 4 and 4:30 p.m.; orientation: 4:30 to 5:45 p.m.
New Parent Orientation will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 6, during the designated times below:

Returning students may pick up their class schedules in the Cafeteria on Aug. 7, between 11:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. or on the first day of school at 7:30 a.m. To receive their schedules, all students, all grades, must turn in the following: completed Emergency Card, signed Acknowledgment of Notification of Parent Information, Anti-Discrimination/Hazing/Harassment policy, and Technology User Agreement form.
All forms and information are included in the summer packet you will receive in late July.
Schedule changes for returning students may be done by mail. Students should have received a form by mail in mid-June and are requested to return the form by July 26. Drop-in appointments will not be possible at this time.
Student pictures will be taken on Aug. 15 and 16.
Ponderosa High School

New student registration will begin on July 30, by appointment only. Call for an appointment after July 12 at (530) 344-8826 or at the number above. New parent orientation will be held on July 30 from 1 to 2 p.m. in the theater and choir room.
Freshmen will receive their class schedule at orientation on Friday, Aug. 2, from 1 to 4 p.m., in the large gym. A barbecue and dance will follow from 4 to 7 p.m.
All other students may pick up their class schedule in front of the cafeteria on Aug. 7, between 1 and 3 p.m., or on the first day of school (Aug. 8), between 6:30 and 8:10 a.m. Completed Emergency Cards must be turned in at the time of schedule pickup.

Orientation for freshmen, new students, and parents is Tuesday, Aug. 6, from 4:30 to 7 p.m. and includes the following schedule:
- 4:30 to 5:30 p.m.: Complimentary dinner on the patio. During this time students can pick up their information packet and class schedules on the patio.
- 5:30 to 6:15 p.m.: Parents will meet with administration in the theater.
- 5:30 to 6:15 p.m.: Freshmen and new students will meet with Activities Director Mrs. Slinger in the west gym.
- 6:15 to 7 p.m.: Students and parents reunite in the east gym then go to the Market Place to gather information on ASB discount cards, bus passes, music program, lunch programs and to purchase yearbooks and UMHS apparel, etc.
All students will receive a preview of their courses included in the summer newsletter. Also, returning students can view their schedule online by linking to the Parent/Student ABI Access Web page from the UMHS home page. Students will receive their class schedule on the first day of school.
Returning students may make course changes in writing by submitting their request to the Counseling Office before Aug. 1, or by e-mail to [email protected] This request must include the course to be dropped, the course to be added, and the reason for the change request, and parent permission.
Students are to follow the class schedule they receive on the first day of school. No schedule changes will be made during the first week, with the exception of incorrect class placement or an unbalanced academic schedule. Note: A parent’s e-mail address will suffice for the required parent signature for all course changes submitted by e-mail. Otherwise, a parent signature is required for course changes.
On the first day of school (Aug. 8), all grades will report to the west gym at 7:50 a.m. for a welcome back rally. Students are asked to sit with their grade level class.
