Hot tamale! Scouts launch tasty fundraiser

By Devin McDonald

Scouts from El Dorado Hills Venturing Crew 454, a co-ed branch of the Boy Scouts of America, are selling delicious, fresh tamales to help raise funds to attend Philmont Scout Ranch this summer.

Philmont, located in New Mexico, is a 137,000-acre Scout camp famous for its rugged mountain backpacking; it is considered one of the best Scout camps in the United States.

The tamales from La Esperanza restaurant in Sacramento are a traditional holiday treat and make a great, easy meal during the busy holiday season. The cost is $20 per dozen, with a choice of pork, chicken, beef or vegetarian (cheese and jalapeno). Tamales can only be ordered in packages of one dozen of the same flavor. Tamales will be delivered fresh, can be refrigerated for several days and can be frozen.

If you are interested in ordering call (916) 941-8316 or e-mail [email protected] and someone will contact you.

Alternately, you may mail your orders and payment (with check made out to Venturing Crew 454) to:
Crew 454 Tamales c/o McDonald Family
4730 Concordia Drive
El Dorado Hills, CA 95762.

Please be sure to include type, quantity, your name, address, and contact information. Orders must be received and paid for by Friday, Dec. 3. Scouts will deliver the tamales on Sunday and Monday, Dec. 12 and 13.
