Husband arrested in Cameron Airpark slaying

Todd Alan Winkler

By Cole Mayer

A 45-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder in connection with a suspicious death in the Cameron Airpark.

The body of Rachel Winkler, 37, was found in her home on Aeronca Way on Feb. 27. When El Dorado County sheriff’s deputies arrived at the scene at 10:30 a.m. they came in contact with a male, later identified as Todd Alan Winkler, the victim’s husband, outside the residence, Lt. Bryan Golmitz said. Winkler was detained for further questioning.

Evidence collected by crime scene investigators and items found during a search of the home reportedly led detectives to Winkler, who was arrested and booked into the El Dorado County Jail at 6 p.m. the same day.

A press release issued by the Sheriff’s Department revealed that the couple had been experiencing marital problems and a domestic dispute had taken place earlier that day.

The official cause of death is pending autopsy.
