A taste of Italy is getting close. The festival celebrating Italian cars, motorcycles, bicycles and food is scheduled for Sept. 13 at the Murer House Museum, 1125 Joe Murer Court in Folsom. The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and the admission is free.
If you like Ferraris, Maseratis, Lamborghinis, classic Fiats, Alfa Romeos, Iso Rivoltas and other Italian exotic automobiles this is the place to be. But this jewel of a show also features Ducatis, Moto Guzzi, Laverdas and other newer and classic Italian motorcycles, as well as classic and new Italian bicycles. Added to the mix are classic and new Italian motor scooters such as Vespa and Piaggio.
Last year’s Best of show in the motor scooter category was a 1974 Vespa 200 bought new and still owned by Michele Quaranta of Sacramento. It had more than 25,000 miles on the odometer, was all original and in great shape. If you remember the 1953 movie Roman Holiday with Gregory Peck, Audrey Hepburn and Eddie Albert, the real star of the film was a Vespa motor scooter. Hepburn won her first Academy Award for Best Actress.
Last year’s People’s Choice and President’s Award was a classic Fiat X1/9 painted in the colors of Italy. Sean Ricci of Placerville is the lucky owner.
In addition to great cars, there will loads of Italian food with pizza from Hot Italian, gelatos, real Italian sodas and other Italian beverages for purchase. Guests will be asked to vote for their favorite vehicles and all the vehicle owners will be there to talk shop. On the park-like grounds there will be tables and chairs set up to enjoy the festivities plus a strolling accordion player making everything oh so Italian. The Murer House museum will be open as well.
