During its regularly scheduled Aug. 14 meeting, the El Dorado County Board of Education provisionally appointed Georgianne Knight to the vacant board position, representing District 1.

Her appointment expires in November. She is the only candidate running for the seat on the November ballot.

Knight has worked for the California Department of Education for 18 years, where she collaborated with the El Dorado County Office of Education, other county boards of education and the State Board of Education as administrator of the Program and Policy Unit. In San Diego County, she worked as a county office of education employee, administrator and gained school site experience as a teacher. Knight also holds lifetime administration and teaching credentials. Beginning March 2012, she served on the El Dorado Community Foundation Board of Directors and provides support, guidance, budget approval and other activities required of such a large nonprofit organization.

“We are extremely excited to welcome such a qualified candidate to our board,” said El Dorado County Superintendent of Schools Jeremy M. Meyers. “EDCOE is proud to have her as a representative and collaborative partner.”

“For many years, I’ve enjoyed our community and schools through various supporting activities with my husband, John Knight, and family such as Rotary, Chamber of Commerce and the El Dorado Hills County Water District,” said Knight after the board meeting. “I am honored to support El Dorado County in this capacity and look forward to bringing high-quality education to the students and families of El Dorado County.”
